On the occasion of Europe Day, the Simon Kuznets Kharkiv National Economic University, together with the EU Information Center, held a business game “Ethical Business Dilemmas”. The game was conducted by Sergei Vasylyk, Associate Professor of the Department of Management and Business for students studying the discipline “Social Responsibility” and for everyone. The participants in the business game developed management decisions of real companies based on their compliance with the Sustainable Development Goals and adherence to the 10 principles of the UN Global Compact. The situations concerned corporate governance practices, anti-corruption, environmental protection, labour relations and human rights. The proposed solutions were evaluated from the point of view of different groups of stakeholders – owners, employees, consumers, representatives of non-governmental organizations, representatives of local communities. Dilemmas make it possible to assess the practical application of the principles of the UN Global Compact in various business situations. The game makes it possible to assess not only the economic but also the social and environmental impact of business on the life of society. Also during the game, participants discussed good and imperfect business practices and the role of business in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
The English version of the game was developed by Responsible Business Solutions (now part of KPMG) in Denmark with the support of the Danish Government and presented to the Global Compact in honour of the 10th anniversary of the initiative. The Ukrainian version of the game was adapted by the UN Global Compact network and provided to the university by the Ukrainian Association for the Development of Management and Business Education.
