The Department of Higher Mathematics and Economics and Mathematical Methods is the basic department of the structure of S. Kuznets KhNEU and teaches the mathematical disciplines of the normative part of the educational-professional and educational-scientific programs (EPP, ESP) according to the cycle of natural sciences and general education training of bachelors of knowledge branches:
Аs well as conducting research, methodological, organizational and educational work in accordance with corporate standards. The department serves all seven faculties of the university.
At the department there are doctors of sciences, professors – 1, candidates of science, associate professors – 16 (84%); the department’s postgraduate students are trained in specialty 08.00.11 ”Mathematical methods, models and information technologies in economics”.The department provides the formation of a stable, modern, fundamental base of knowledge for the preparation of future economists, managers, analysts and programmers through continuous mathematical training at lectures, practices and laboratory classes, as well as through independent work of students. To improve the quality of educational activities besides teaching mathematical disciplines, the department implements a competent approach with the use of IT technologies. At lectures, practices and laboratory classes, faculty members of the department deliberately form students the ability to effectively use acquired knowledge. To do this, all disciplines of the department have developed individual research tasks and means for activating students’ independent work, organized mathematical special courses for magistrates of different specialties, for many years the circle of improvement of knowledge on mathematics in the economy, whose members annually defend the honor of the university at the All-Ukrainian Student Olympiad in Mathematics, where they have prize-winning places.
For all disciplines, the department has developed full-on-study and methodological complexes, actively implemented technologies of distance learning in the form of personal learning systems, published several teaching aids and textbooks, including the stamp of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine, numerous educational and methodological developments.
Edited by Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor V.S. Ponomarenko’s lecturers of the department issued a basic textbook for students of economic specialties “Higher Mathematics: Mathematical Analysis, Linear Algebra, Analytical Geometry”. Lecturers of the department provide teaching of mathematical disciplines in English according to the program of study for Ukrainian and foreign students. An important part of the department’s activity is pre-university preparation of applicants for testing in the conditions of external independent evaluation. To improve its quality lecturers of the department prepared and issued a significant amount of teaching and methodological developments. The scientific work of lecturers is a key area of the activity of the department and is conducted in two directions: “Economic and mathematical methods and models for solving problems in economics in modern conditions” and “Development of methodological, algorithmic and software tools for the analysis of physical and mechanical fields”. The results of scientific research of the departments’ lecturers are implemented in contracted scientific works at the enterprises of Kharkiv and are covered in numerous scientific articles, monographs, materials of conferences, which are published in professional periodicals of Ukraine and foreign publications.The department conducts a long-term scientific and individual cooperation: the lecturer – student – master – the postgraduate student.
