History of the Department

Department of Economic Cybernetics of S. Kuznets Kharkiv National University of Economics began its activity under the name “Department of Economic and Mathematical Methods” in June 1994 on the basis of the Faculty of Economic Informatics and Automated Control Systems. In the same year, the first set of students in the field of “Economic Cybernetics” was carried out. In December 1997 the department was renamed into the Department of Economic Cybernetics.

From the moment of creation and till 2018 the department was headed by the Doctor of Economic Sciences, professor Tamara Semenovna Klebanova – Academician of the International Academy of Informatization, a member of the Ukrainian Academy of Economic Cybernetics, the International Association of Applied and Industrial Mathematics, a member of the All-Ukrainian Association of Economic Cybernetics. The scientific school, created by Klebanova T.S., includes more than 40 candidates and doctors of economic sciences.

Since September 2018 the department is headed by a representative of the Klebanova  scientific school, Doctor of Economic Sciences, Professor Gurianova L.S.

 

Lecturers

Lecturers of the department have got high qualifications in the field of economic and mathematical modeling and information technologies. The employees of the department are members of the All-Ukrainian Association of Economic Cybernetics, have certificates of the company «Prognoz (Forecast)» (the program «Mathematical models in the economy and their computer realization», direction «Prognoz Platform Web-modeling and forecasting»), SAP Academic Competence Center ( The practice of using ERP systems in production management), CEUME Regional Representation (Management and Project Evaluation Program), StatSoft Company (the program “Methodology and Technology of Contemporary Data Analysis”), etc. At present, 11 lecturers work at the department, among them 2 doctors of sciences, professors; 9 PhD , associate professors. The average age of the lecturers of the department is 40 years.

The lecturers of the department take part in national and international educational projects. They are actively engaged in scientific activities, being consultants and founders of firms, employees of research centers. During the existence of the department more than 50 textbooks and manuals, 60 monographs were published.

During  the existence of the Department over 500 students have been graduated from it. Graduates of the department successfully work in different fields: analysts in large industrial companies, analysts in banks and insurance companies, advertising agencies, IT companies, heads of private companies, heads of branches, high level managers, financiers and professors, project managers and business- analysts.

At the department there is a set of postgraduate and doctoral programs in the specialty “Economics”. During the existence of the department more than 38 PhDs and 4 doctors of sciences have been trained.

The main cooperation directions:

  • implementation of joint scientific publications and educational publications;
  • mutual consultations, comprehensive assistance in carrying out theoretical and experimental research;
  • assistance in organizing traineeships of scientific staff, lecturers, postgraduates and students;
  • organization and participation in annual scientific and practical conferences, seminars;
  • joint participation in international grants and programs.

 

Students of the Department of Economic Cybernetics have sucessfully completed and continue studies at the double-diploma programs, in particular, «GAEXA» (GAme theory, EXperiments and Applied econometrics) (Lyon University, France), “Business Informatics” (Lyon University, France), Master Programme in International Administration and Global Governance (University of Gothenburg (Sweden); PhD-programs of Pierre-Mendes-France University (University of Grenoble, France), labaratory of applied economics (Université Pierre Mendès France (Univeristé de Grenoble),  Laboratoire d’Economie Appliquée de Grenoble (GAEL));  University of Gothenburg (Sweden).

 

Scientific Research Areas

Within the framework of the Department of Economic Cybernetics headed by Klebanova T.S., the scientific school “Development of system analysis and early warning of destabilization of the system functioning”, which includes more than 40 scientists  is functioning  . The main areas of scientific research of the Department of Economic Cybernetics are:

  • modeling of information systems development mechanisms;
  • early warning and crisis management systems;
  • models of estimation of unevenness and cyclical dynamics of socio-economic development of regions;
  • models of adaptive learning management in distance education systems;
  • modeling of security management systems of enterprises, regions, states;
  • models for balancing labor markets;
  • models of evaluation and management of the competitiveness of economic systems;
  • models of anticrisis management of corporate systems;
  • models of evaluation, analysis and development of economic policy;
  • modeling of tax systems, fiscal policy.
